About Us

Mission Statement:

Breakfast Club, Tanzania believe that all school children have a right to a healthy, sustainable diet

Breakfast Club is an educational NGO based in the Mtwara province of Southern Tanzania. We believe it is essential for children to receive food during the school day and we are committed to creating sustainable School Feeding Programmes across the region. In Southern Tanzania most children will receive their only meal of the day when they return from home and do not eat for the entire school day. This lack of food has dramatic impacts on school children’s energy, attainment and concentration, not to mention its negative impact on attendance. Furthermore, children will appreciate and enjoy schooling more if they are fed a nutritional breakfast. Our long-term aim is to work with numerous schools in the Mtwara Municipality in order to feed as many students as we can.

Breakfast Club Tanzania, is registered in the UK and in Tanzania and has assisted with the successful implementation of School Feeding Programmes at three primary schools, in different parts of the Mtwara region of Tanzania: Mangamba, Mtawanya, and Mkangala. Our team is largely Tanzania-based and works closely with a UK contact who volunteers, along with a few others for fundraising and admin. We have no overheads in the UK at all. Breakfast Club Tanzania is a close-knit organisation with a strong commitment to the long-term success of our project. Throughout our work we aim to reflect our shared values, which are based on working in partnership with local communities. Every effort is made during research and implementation to ensure that policy adheres to local sensitivities. It is vital that our development initiatives reflect local knowledge and that our decisions are based on the needs of the community as a whole.
